Itchy Feet Films

In the build up to my trip, I have been watching as many films about the Big Wide World as possible.

Not only does this help me save money (by keeping me out of the pub) but these movies remind me why I so desperately want to quit my stable job during a recession, abandon my beloved friends and family, leave my gorgeous NW3 flat and turn my back on Asos for an indefinite period of time.

This is my list of all time favourite Itchy Feet Films - the bad influences that make me head straight for kayak.com... so in no particular order:

Hideous Kinky

The Beach

Seven Years in Tibet

Y Tu Mamá También

Out of Africa

Muriel's Wedding - ok, not strictly a 'travel' film. But to me this is all about someone swapping everything they know for a new place, a new identity and a new adventure. Muriel runs away, first to Bali - where she meets her best ever best friend - and then from small town Oz to Sydney, where she finds out who she really is (and it's not Marial).

The Beginning

When did this latest adventure begin? I could name you the books I read that made me hunger for change, the people who've encouraged me, the Curry Houses where I've gorged myself silly. But, of course, there was no single event or chance meeting that made me want to jump ship and run to India. In my mind, I've always been going. And now I've picked the date.

Sunday 19th September, 2010. I'll wake up on that Monday morning in Delhi. I don't know when I'll leave India, although I have a feeling that it will be when either my visa or money runs out, whichever comes first.

This blog is going to be my diary, my platform, and my touchstone to the real world - my old world, Britain. I'd like to share stories, adventures, disappointments, tidbits of advice and photographs with anyone that stumbles across these pages.
